Governor for a Day

In 2018, the "Governor for a Day" initiative was launched in New Hampshire to foster civic education and promote youth participation in government.

The "Governor for a Day" competition is once again open for the 2023-2024 school year to all Middle and High school students across New Hampshire. Interested applicants are invited to submit a 250-500 word essay completing the sentence, "If I were Governor for a day, I would…" Students are invited to discuss policies that they would champion, aspects of New Hampshire history they would highlight, or other initiatives they would prioritize as Governor for a Day.

One individual will be selected to serve as the official student "Governor for a Day." This individual will be publicly recognized as such and will be invited to join me for a day full of educational experiences. This real-life experience will provide the selected student a new perspective on government and an understanding of what it is like to serve as governor.

Submissions are due by Friday, February 23 and may be sent to my Facebook messenger account (@GovernorChrisSununu) or GovernorForADay@nh.gov, and can be mailed to:

"Governor For a Day"
c/o Governor Chris Sununu
107 North Main Street
Concord, NH 03301

Applicants should also be sure to include the following information:

  • Name
  • Age and Grade
  • Organization/School
  • Home Address
  • Teacher Contact Information
  • Parent or Guardian Name
  • Parent or Guardian E-Mail and Phone Number

Note: All submissions must be made via Facebook Messenger, e-mail, or as typed correspondence addressed to the Governor's Office. Applications submitted via flash-drive or cd-disk will not be accepted.

I encourage students across the Granite State to participate in the "Governor for a Day" competition and look forward to hearing what New Hampshire students would do as Governor for a day!

Sincerely,
Christopher T. Sununu
Governor
